Our Basic Angler Education Workshop is designed to provide information and experience for women (18 years and older) who are new to the sport or who desire to improve their angling skills. The educational experience will be a combination of topic presentation, demonstrations, and hands on experience. In addition, there will be ample time to fish and practice what you have learned throughout the weekend on the two lighted fishing piers on site!

Presentations will include: rod & reel selection, use and care, types of fishing knots and what to use when, fishing equipment, casting, tackle assembly, safety for you and how to handle and unhook fish, using your knowledge of structure, tides and weather conditions to improve your fishing experience, fish identification and habitat, safety, regulations, ethics, stewardship of our coastal resources and Texas Park & Wildlife Department rules and regulations. Hands on demonstrations will include: building and learning to use a popping cork, learning to cast a rod & reel, throwing a cast net, using a bait bucket, knot tying, and how to clean fish. There will also be a Casting Competition, Fishing Tournament and guest speakers.

Sandra Haley, GCLA Leadership Team Member and Trip Coordinator, has planned this seminar in hopes that all ladies will leave the weekend with a wealth of newfound knowledge. If you have any questions or need more info on the seminar, please do not hesitate to email Sandra. This workshop is proudly sponsored by the Gulf Coast Lady Anglers as a way to promote our mission through fishing education to women. You DO NOT have to be a GCLA member to attend.
