The number of participants is being limited to six (6) for this clinic, this will ensure everyone’s safety and positive learning experience.
This event is planned to be an introduction to kayaking for women who have not kayaked before and for new kayakers who wish to broaden and improve their skills. Although we will cover equipping a kayak for fishing and kayak angling techniques, this clinic is not planned to be a kayak fishing trip.
Emphasis will be on safety, basic skills, techniques, and equipment.
No previous kayaking experience is required, but you must be comfortable in deep water and KNOW HOW TO SWIM. You do not have to bring a kayak to attend, we will have several styles and brands of kayaks available for your use during the Clinic. You are welcome to bring a kayak if you have one.
We will be staying in Bayside, Texas, on the shore of Copano Bay. “The Gray Bay Fish Cabin” will be our home for this four-day Clinic.
We will be kayaking from the shoreline at the lodge; there is ample parking space for vehicles and kayak trailers. You are encouraged to bring your kayak if you have one.
Equipment and Gear:
You do not have to bring a kayak.
You do not have to provide your own PFD (personal flotation device), but if you have one, bring it.
You will need to bring your own fishing gear, rods, and tackle.
You will need shoes with a sturdy, hard sole.
Suggested clothing includes gloves to protect your hands, comfortable quick dry clothing which offer protection from the sun, cap / hat, and sunglasses with a strap.
The Lodge has a great pier for fishing in the evenings, and a little friendly angling competition.
Bayside is a very small community, there is a small convenience store in town, and a larger convenience store five miles from town. Only dead bait is available at these locations. The closest bait shops for live bait are in Rockport, 23 miles away. You can bring a cast net for bait, but the taking of shrimp from Copano Bay is not allowed due to it being a designated nursery bay.
If you would prefer to save the convenience fee, you can send your check/money order to: GCLA, PO Box 1081, Kemah, TX 77565 and write a note with-Intro to Kayak-on your check. Please contact Sandra Haley at: sandra@gulfcoastladyanglers.com to let her know you are mailing your registration in, so we don't over book.
